Created in 1980 in the United Kingdom, the Western Front Association's mission is to perpetuate the memory, courage, and comradeship of all those who served their countries on all sides, across all theatres and fronts, on land, at sea and in the air and at home, during the Great War.
It has since become Great Britain's and arguably the world's premier Great War focused non-profit organization, with 60 branches established worldwide.
East Coast Branch (US)
In 1990 a group of Great War scholars and enthusiasts gathered to commence the WFA's East Coast Branch (US). Although based in the greater Baltimore area, WFA East Coast attracts American attendees and membership from across the country. Notably, it maintains a programme of bi-annual symposiums featuring a day of presentations, food, and fellowship. Speakers range from seasoned academics and published authors to knowledgable enthusiasts and young scholars sharing their latest work and discoveries. WFA East Coast is particularly dedicated to connecting such aspiring historians to leaders in the field.
WFA East Coast is also committed to community efforts of commemoration. Throughout the centenary, for example, the branch cooperated with museums, universities, and government agencies to perpetuate the memory of the war's effects on the communities of Maryland.
This site serves as the official WFA East Coast online headquarters. We hope you'll enjoy the shared content from the Home Branch's efforts as well as our own.
